Boston Bruins (-152) vs. Winnipeg Jets (+126) Total: 6.5 (O+108, U-132)
It’s been somewhat of a weird stretch from the Bruins of late, but they can’t be on every night for the entirety of an 82-game season. A loss against the Chicago Blackhawks their last time out should set them up nicely for a bounce-back effort tonight against the Jets. These teams already met back on December 22, which saw the Bruins post a 3-2 win. Boston’s currently listed as a road favorite in this matchup on the moneyline at -152, while the Jets are priced at +126.
Boston has lost two in a row and also posted a 7-3 record over its past ten games. On the other hand, the Jets are struggling and sit at 3-5-2 over that same sample size. Something will have to give tonight, though, and one of these teams will ultimately get back in the win column.
Looking toward the projected goalie matchup tonight, the Bruins are expected to start Linus Ullmark, while the Jets should be countering with Connor Hellebuyck. The Bruins netminder has been the clubhouse leader for the Vezina to this point, posting a 33-5-1 record, paired with a .935 save percentage. Hellebuyck has also been very strong for the Jets, owning a 29-20-2 record, along with a .919 save percentage.
It’s hard to see Boston going through a stretch of play right now where they lose a third straight game. There are far too many veterans on this hockey team not to pull them out of this current slump, meaning there’s value in backing their moneyline odds tonight at -152.
Best Bet: Bruins moneyline (-152)
The earlier matchup between these clubs saw them combine for just five goals which makes sense when you factor in how these teams are built. Yes, the Bruins are a beast on both sides of the puck, but the Jets’ strength is also driven by keeping pucks out of the back of their net. Over the Bruins’ past five games, they’ve seen seven or more goals scored twice, while the Jets have also seen that transpire in a pair of games. With the total tonight set at 6.5 and the under being juiced up to -132, it’s hard to look away from that price point in this matchup between two defensive-minded clubs.
Best Bet: Under 6.5 (-132)
Some of the Bruins’ top offensive weapons might not be contributing of late like we’re accustomed to, but we plan to return to the well in this matchup tonight. David Pastrnak has continued to be one of the most electric goal scorers in the NHL, and he does so in such a wide variety of ways. The Czech winger has tallied 46 goals in 66 games and also leads the club with six points over their past five contests. With the Bruins looking to get back on track in the win column, look for Pastrnak to find the back of the net tonight at +106.
Best Prop: David Pastrnak to Record Over 0.5 Goals (+106)
